My highlights for the weekend were playing our set and jamming at a hundred miles an hour with a great up and coming young band called Flats and Sharps. Four 17 year old boys from Cornwall who are taking the UK bluegrass scene by storm.

We went to see Fisherman's Friends at Brum Town Hall last night. They were excellent but the real surprise of the night was the young support band, Flats and Sharps. The 4 lads, the oldest only 19, played an amazing set of bluegrass music in the tradition of bands like the Flying Burrito Bros and Gram Parsons. Their ability on banjo, guitar, mandolin and double bass was far beyond their years and I actually bought an cd at a venue for the 1st time ever. They restored my faith in young people and music which has been destroyed by programmes like the X Factor. There IS real talent out there!
